A paradox is an idea that is at first contradictory or hard to understand. The idea of the “paradox of marriage” is that you can never know someone entirely. Marriage is not just knowing them on some level, but also in their entirety. You can never be perfectly intimate with someone else, but you can get close enough to know them more than anyone else.
You can’t ever really know exactly what they are thinking or feeling, it is always some version of what they would like you to think or feel. But that doesn’t stop you from loving them more than anyone else.
